Colita South Minneapolis Hipster Hack Food Review
Standard

I was lucky enough to get to Colita with my bests for a Friendsgiving feast.

I had never been, but have definitely heard about it and can happily say it lived up to the hype. They recommend sharing plates, which was a great idea for us, the only downside is that we were a group of four and many of the plates come with 2 items. My only critique of the experience is that I do wish that there was more on the plates at the price point, because we all left still hungry so it was more of a tasting menu than a meal.

Snacks:

Masa & Guacamole: Guacamole, hummus, peanuts, guajillo salsa

As mentioned, we were told to aim for around 6 plates for 4 people. Their menu is broken up into three sections; cold, hot and smoke. So going in order, from the cold section we picked the Masa & Guacamole and the Tuna Tostadas.

The guacamole was good and a decent portion to act as a starter for 4 people.

Tuna Tostada: Raw tuna, avocado, sesame, tomato jam, cilantro, celery leaf

The Tuna Tostada was my favorite dish of the meal. I loved the flavors.

Seared Scallops: Carrot puree, salsa macha, peanut, fresno

Moving onto the hot section, we got the seared scallops and the miso crusted zucchini.

Being honest, the scallops were my least favorite dish. I really like scallops, but for me the spice and flavor mixture of this dish wasn’t my favorite.

Masa Crusted Zucchini: Corn puree, parmesan, soy nuts, cilantro

The zucchini was a recommendation to me by a coworker so I was excited when my friends were into it. This ended up being one of my top dishes of the night. The texture and flavors all worked really well together.

Lamb Barbacoa Tacos: Anchovy, caper berry, onions, cilantro

In the smoke section we picked the lamb barbacoa tacos and I could have happily eaten another dish of these on my own. Very good.

Churros: Dulce de leche, cinnamon sugar, dulce cream

The churros were also another recommendation so we had to try them. I was in love with the presentation and we were able to add a 4th one to the dish that normally comes with three which I was grateful for. I loved the dulce cream also. Just an overall YUM.

Drinks:

Naked Dani #3: Blanco, curado de peranja, poblano, seville orange, pear, lime

I knew they had a rubber ducky cocktail and I knew I needed to have it, but couldn’t figure out which one it was. Luckily one of my friends found it for me and bonus is that the cocktail was one I actually wanted to drink!! I really enjoyed this.

Plus look how cute it is!!

Atmosphere/Service:

You need a reservation. We booked about a week in advance and got a 4:15pm Saturday reservation (which worked out for us since we were going to grab drinks after too).

Our server was great and I love how it is decorated. Overall I would definitely rank this experience high and it was a great night with my girls.
