The Market at Malcolm Yards | Minneapolis, MN

Wrecktangle Pizza Malcolm Yards Market Minneapolis
Standard

Like basically every other Minnesotan, we wanted to try Wrecktangle Pizza hot off their win on the Good Morning America Ultimate Pizza competition. The closest location to us is at The Market at Malcolm Yards, which was an added bonus for me, because I have been wanting to try out this food hall for a while.

We assumed that it would be a bit of a wait for pizza (which it was) so it was great to also have so many other options to snack on.

Mara Restaurant and Bar | Minneapolis, MN

Mara Mediterranean Restaurant Minneapolis

Chef Gavin Kaysen is a personal hero of husband’s so ever since Mara Restaurant and Bar opened he’s been talking about going. However, because of all the things we had to do for our wedding in October it unfortunately kept getting pushed to the backburner so when I decided to plan a special experience for him over the holidays, reservations at Mara were the obvious choice. He was thrilled and his excitement didn’t even damper when the day of the reservations came and Minnesota was in the middle of a blizzard warning that he had to drive through haha.

I went to post a photo of our most recent visit to LoLo American Kitchen and Craft Bar in Stillwater, Minnesota and realized, that although they are probably my most recommended spot, I’ve never written a Hipster Hack about them which felt very wrong, so here we are with a recap of some of our favorite dishes!

Forge and Foundry Distillery | Stillwater, Minnesota

Standard

Forge & Foundry Distillery is a must stop for us when we go to downtown Stillwater.

I am going to be completely honest: I have only ever had one cocktail from there, but luckily I’ve been with enough people who have tried other ones to showcase them haha. Continue reading

W.A. Frost and Co. | St. Paul, MN

I’ve tried and failed in past summers to get onto W.A. Frost and Company‘s patio and I was not going to make that same mistake this year. Their patio is continuously listed on the top patios of the Twin Cities and it is clear why!

Handsome Hog | St. Paul, MN

Standard

We are having the best summer finally experiencing restaurants we’ve been talking about going to for what feels like ever. After two years of pandemic takeout and sticking to the same places (some would say sticking to the rivers and the lakes that we’re used to #IYKYK) it just feels like we’re finally getting back to experiencing life.

I’m embarrassed to say that Handsome Hog has been on my list since it was in its first location so it’s taken me damn near a decade to get there 🤦‍♀️. I’m happy to report, that brunch was everything I’ve been dreaming it would be, but jokes on me, because now Handsome Hog is back on the list for dinner.

The Velveteen Speakeasy | Stillwater, MN

Standard

I love a good prohibition era bar and it wasn’t hard to convince fiance that The Velveteen Speakeasy in Stillwater, Minnesota was the best spot for our next date night when I assured him it crossed off all his criteria:

  • Dim ✅
  • Strong Cocktails ✅
  • Pork Belly ✅

Plus who doesn’t love playing dress up to go to dinner?

Saint Paul Brewing | St. Paul, Minnesota

Saint Paul Brewing Patio Ski Lift Swing
Standard

Saint Paul Brewing is my absolute favorite patio. I know it sounds made up or ridiculous, but the first time we went there last year, I felt a rush of pure joy that has only happened to me a handful of other times like when I heard my favorite song performed by my favorite band live, when I was about to jump out of a plane with a human strapped onto my back, and when we secured our wedding venue and it hit me that we were actually getting married.

Don’t get me wrong, the beer is really good, too haha, but without a doubt, my obsession with this brewery revolves around the joy and wonder their patio gives me.
