Minnesota State Fair Foods 2022 | Saint Paul, MN

Standard

The Minnesota State Fair is my favorite food event of the year! Normally I go multiple times, but with my wedding in a couple months we were forced to try to jam pack everything into one power 4 hour visit this year, which meant that I had to forgo a few normal fair food staples to make room for more new foods.

Below are all the foods we had this year plus the new items from Nordic Waffles that we were able to try at a State Fair preview event the night before it opened.

Hello Hipster Hack followers, I’m Ashley and you may remember me from my many, many appearances here since I am Tara’s biggest supporter, and a fellow food lover. (Although I’m the sister that enjoys creating fun foods, while Tara’s the one that enjoys traveling to find it). Continue reading

We tried out the Don Oishi Kitchen Food Truck at Tattersall Distilling in Northeast Minneapolis.

The real hero is the person who initiated the first Brewery/Distillery and Food Truck partnership, because that person created the blueprint for socially acceptable drunk snacking.

I am obsessed with Tattersall Distiling in NE Minneapolis and cannot believe I have never written a full on review of them considering it is probably the place I most frequently recommend to people when they ask me where they should check out in Northeast. It is time to right that wrong. Continue reading

Smack Shack | North Loop Minneapolis

I wanted to get a Hipster Hack review out about the Smack Shack this week, since Valentine’s Day in just around the corner and according to their website they have a stuffed lobster & champagne pairing going on this Saturday, February 14th. What better way to say “I like you better than anyone else in my life,” than lobster and champagne?

The interesting thing about Smack Shack is that they originated as a Food Truck that specialized in Lobster Rolls. They were also featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” because of their food truck and as the food service at 1029 Bar.  The actual “Smack Shack” restaurant has only been open since 2013, but it has quickly become a staple of the North Loop dining experience. The Anchor Fish & Chips | Northeast Minneapolis

The Anchor Fish & Chips in Northeast is a cult classic. The food is always delicious and it’s always insansely busy, which means that there’s an art to getting seated at Anchor.

Because there are only a couple tables set up to accommodate more than two people if you go to dinner with more than that you’re looking at a minimum 45 minute wait. Seating is first-come-first-serve, so if you are trying to go with a party, either send someone to put your name in ahead of time or simply don’t go at supper time! Continue reading

Undead Frank’s Zombie Bites Food Truck hails from Donny Dirk’s Zombie Den which is owned by Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge (review for Psycho Suzi’s coming soon).

Donny Dirk's Zombie Den

I was pretty pumped when we walked up and saw the Zombie Truck. With food names like Undead Fries and Zombie Bites I had really high hopes for the food. To be fair, I think my idea of zombie food would in actuality be pretty unedible, but to be honest, I don’t think the theme really translated to the food. I was expecting a destructed presentation and vivid reds and greens. Continue reading
