MACS macaroni and cheese shop Wisconsin Dells Hipster Hack Review
Standard

I had previously visited MACS Macaroni and Cheese Shop on the return trip from Chicago with my sister, niece and Mom and I was determined to get back there so this last weekend on the way home from visiting some friends in Madison I convinced husband we had to stop. However, I didn’t realize that the location my sister had taken us to was the Baraboo one and not the Wisconsin Dells so I did get a little turned around not recognizing where I was and it was definitely crazier trying to find parking, but still so worth the detour.

Food:

PHILLY MAC: Provolone, mozzarella, philly steak, sautéed green peppers, onions & mushrooms Wontons

I was tempted to get the MAMA’s mac like last time, because I loved it so much (photos/description a little further down), but I forced myself to try something new. The Philly Mac tasted just like a Philly Cheesesteak. It was very good.

JALAPENO POPPER MAC: Pepper jack, mozzarella, jalapenos, bacon, cream cheese

Husband got the Big Daddy size aka the large while I had the lil’ Mac aka small. He got the Jalapeno Popper and originally thought he’d be taking home leftovers, but once he started eating it quickly disappeared 🤣 . Safe to say he was a fan.

Other Specialty Macaroni & Cheese

I wanted to share the photos from my first visit, because showing only two mac & cheeses doesn’t showcase how insane and fun this menu is.

MAMA’S MAC: Cheddar, mozzarella, grilled hot dog

I was so excited to see that the MAMA’s had hot dogs in it, because I grew up on Kraft Mac & Cheese with Oscar Meyer cut into it and to this day it is still a comfort food that I find myself craving a couple times a year…no shame.

CARNITAS MAC: Pepper jack, mozzarella, corn and black bean salsa, seasoned pulled pork, hint of lime, tortilla strips, chipotle sauce

My sister picked out the Carnitas Mac. Just look how pretty that is!

BUFFALO CHICKEN MAC: Provolone, mozzarella, blue cheese, chicken, celery sticks, buffalo sauce

My mom decided to go for the Buffalo Chicken mac. I believe you can get this one without meat too if you prefer. This one is a pretty standard “specialty mac,” but that doesn’t make it less delicious!

MACS CAESAR SALAD: Shaved parmesan, seasoned croutons, macaroni noodles, romaine, caesar dressing

They do offer other things besides just macaroni and cheese. They have melts and salads also. My niece doesn’t like cheese (yeah I don’t get it either) so she got the MACS Caesar Salad that has noodles in it 🤣.

Drinks:

They have standard soft drinks of course, but I love that they also offer milk, because who doesn’t love their mac & cheese with milk?!

You can also get bottled beer specifically at the Wisconsin Dells location since it is located on Broadway aka the Vegas Strip of Wisconsin…

Atmosphere/Service:

Ordering is fast casual style where you get a number and they bring it out to your table. Both locations were pretty quick and we had our food within 10-15 minutes.

The Baraboo location definitely had an easier parking situation, but if you want to add some people watching into the mix, the Wisconsin Dells location is in the heart of it and we were treated to the symphony of sawed off exhausts and revving engines, because apparently it is a pre-requisite that any POS or pretend race car driving on Broadway has to call as much attention to themselves as possible (Cue the very old Dane Cook skit).
