2025 Food and Drink Review | Fargo, ND

Fargo North Dakota Food and Drink Review Hipster Hack Review
Standard

Every year in July my sister and I do a road trip and this year she agreed to go to Fargo, North Dakota with me so that I can cross that state off my list!

We were only in Fargo for about 24 hours so we made sure to hit a couple of the “sites” I found ahead of time and also found a couple places to try there by recommendation. Obviously, this is a very short list, but I thought it made sense to share since I do think this is a great amount of stuff for a quick visit or a great base for someone planning to be there longer!

Fargo Must Sees and Food Spots

As I said our trip was a 1 day, so we arrived around 1pm and left the next day around noon. We lucked out that we happened to be there during the same time as the Downtown Fargo Street Fair, however, that did mean that many of the hotels were sold out. I ended up finding a room at the Wingate by Wyndham which actually ended up being a great central location for us and all the places we had on our list!

Fargo North Dakota City Sights and Photo Opportunities

Woodchipper Fargo North Dakota Hipster Hack Review

We started at the Fargo Visitor’s Center, which actually has the wood chipper from the movie “Fargo,” so it was a necessary stop for us!

We also went downtown Fargo and got to check off the Mario Wall and this iconic Fargo movie theater view.

Lastly, before we left we had some recommendations to go the Scheel’s sporting good store, because it’s an “experience” and boy were they not lying. There are not only game stops and photo opportunities there is a full on ferris wheel inside!

Space Aliens

Space Aliens was right next to our hotel and the Visitor’s Center and, as you can tell, we are suckers for photo ops so obviously we had to go! This is a chain, but we’ve never been before.

The inside definitely met our expectations and we shared a pizza, which we both enjoyed.

Cajun Ranch Chicken Pizza: Zesty Cajun Ranch sauce, our special-cheese blend, oven roasted chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato.

This would be a great place to bring kids as it is like a chuck-e-cheese or dave & busters where you can play games for points you can redeem for prizes.

BrewHalla & Drekker Brewing

Brewhalla was a top search result when I was looking for things for us to do in Fargo. We actually almost ended up staying in their upstairs hotel, but at the end of the day, we decided to go with the Wingate because I had enough points for a free stay so it was a no brainer. The rooms look really cool, though!

The Brewhalla shops were cute and we lucked out that they had puppy speed dating with one of the local rescues while we were there so we got to see some puppies, too.

Loved the Drekker Brewing Company space and they were another highly rated brewery to check out so I was excited we were able to have a two-fer!

ThaiKota

We love Thai food so when we saw ThaiKota come up with 4.8 stars and it was less than a mile from where we were, it was the obvious choice.

Crispy Gau Gee: Crispy pork filled dumplings served with sweet chili peanut sauce

The cashier described the Gau Gee to us as sort of a Hawaiian Wonton and there has never been a wonton I didn’t like. These were very good and I definitely recommend.

Pad Thai with Tofu: Thai style stir-fry rice noodles, egg, peanut, beansprout, with sweet tamarind sauce

I got the Pad Thai with crispy tofu and while that isn’t an “adventurous” pick, I don’t care, because Pad Thai is my favorite and I don’t get it often. This was great for a spice baby like me, there was a little kick, but even I wouldn’t consider it spicy.

Drunken MaMa: Spicy noodle dish with basil, egg, green onion, tomato, cabbage tossed in house wok sauce

My sister got the Drunken MaMa which definitely satisfied her noods craving. We were also pleased they had a little side patio we were able to sit in. Definitely think this place is great and worth a try!

Kroll’s Diner

Kroll’s Diner was a highly recommended breakfast/brunch spot. I immediately fell in love with the 1950s vibe.

Our server was great and we loved the mix of traditional breakfast food and German options.

Salted Caramel Iced Coffee

I was excited to see they had iced coffee options, because I need a coffee to function in the morning and who doesn’t love a coffee dessert!

Country Skillet: Country sausage, onions, green peppers, blended with hash browns, topped with American cheese

I got the country skillet and really enjoyed it. There was a healthy amount of sausage and liked it way more than similar meals that go heavy handed on the hash browns.

Fleischkuechle: Seasoned ground beef, wrapped inside a pastry and deep-fried.

My sister decided to try out one of the German dishes the “fleischkuechle.” I tried it and while it wasn’t exactly my speed, she loved it.

And that’s a wrap!

If we were there longer, I think we would have tried to fit in a one of the parks and there were a couple more food spots downtown that we would have tried if the street fair wasn’t happening.

I hope you find this helpful!
