As a vodka enthusiast, I’m embarrassed to say this is only my second time visiting Moscow on the Hill in Saint Paul 😬. Lately husband and I have been stuck in a bit of a rut so when he told me it was my turn to pick date night I put together a list of places I was long overdue for a visit and when he saw Moscow on the Hill and he realized he could get some quality “beef strogo” it was an immediate yes for him.
Snacks:

Chebourek: Savory lamb and potato fried pastry served with tomato-garlic sauce
I gotta admit that I was so enamored with my cocktail and having such a great time with husband that I forgot to take any photos of what the chebourek looked like inside, but you’ll just have to take my word for it that these were absolutely delicious. You have the option of ordering 1 of 2 and we ordered 2 thinking one for each of us. While I don’t regret it, in retrospect, we probably each would have been fine splitting one, because they’re huge.

Moscow Fries: House cut fries tossed in dill and fresh garlic served with dipping sauces
Since husband had never been, I insisted that we also had to get the Moscow fries with the selling point of “they have dill….” After one taste he is now exactly as obsessed with them as I am.

Peasant Pelmeni: Mushroom sauce and cheese broiled over beef and pork filled dumplings
This is another item I should have remembered to take another photo of it once I pierced through the cheese layer haha buttttt as I mentioned before I was at a vodka bar and I love vodka so I may or may not have forgot….
I LOVE dumplings and this dish was absolutely delicious. They do actually offer the ability to buy frozen ones to take home, too and I totally planned to do it until… you guessed it….I drank too many martinis 🤣

Beef Stroganoff: Beef filet strips in black pepper sour cream sauce with mushrooms and onions, mashed potatoes and vegetables
Husband is OBSESSED with stroganoff. This is actually the first time he’s ever had the proper Russian version that comes with mashed potatoes so when I reached over to help myself to his dish by scooping up potatoes and then some of the strogo he was immediately baffled at why I would mix them together. I gotta admit, because my husband usually has so much more culinary knowledge than I do, it was a definitely an ego boost to not only be able to explain that it’s how you’re SUPPOSED to eat it, but also casually throw in how I had made it myself once when I hosted one of our friendship Cultural Cooking nights with the theme of Russia AND reached out to my friend who’s from Russia to ask for some pointers…. no big deal 🤣
Drinks:

Cafe Kremlin: House coffee vodka, Creme de cacao, and Espresso
It does not matter what you call it. If there’s an espresso martini on your menu I will find it 🤣. According to our server the Cafe Kremlin is a new addition and one I am VERY happy that exists.

Overall the vodka selection is vast, and the cocktail names were really fun.

Husband got the Russian Concussion and really both the taste and the alcohol content.

Russian Concussion: House cherry vodka, Blackberry brandy, cranberry juice and sour
We debated doing a vodka flight, but I decided that may be better done at another time.
Atmosphere/Service:

I did make a reservation online, but truth be told, because we went to dinner so early (5pm) while it was snowing in Minnesota, it was pretty calm. By the time we left around 6:30 it was busy, though so I would definitely recommend securing a reservation.

We ended up paying the $5 to park in the lot next door instead of driving around for free parking because it was during the middle of a snow storm, which I would gladly do again.

Our server was great, the food was fantastic and so was the vodka (as I’ve previously mentioned 🤣)
I can’t wait to go back in the warmer months to introduce husband to their beautiful patio…and try out that vodka flight!
