Last Friday I had a Northeast Minneapolis girls night with some friends starting with dinner at Olive & Lamb and ending at some of the local Northeast establishments for cocktails.
This was my first time eating at Olive & Lamb and actually gave me a strong sense of nostalgia as I used to live a few blocks from that building and had been there for lunch when it was a deli…I miss that neighborhood!
Food:

ROASTED EGGPLANT DIP: Topped with fried egg and served with pita bread
We started off by splitting the roasted egg plant dip. It was really good and definitely a good sized appetizer for four people.

O&L WRAP: Gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, onion, tzatziki with regular fries
I love a gyro wrap so when I saw this I was sold. It feels like blasphemy to say, but wraps are usually my favorite types of “sandwiches,” because they’re less messy! For their wrap you can choose between falafal, gyro or chicken and also between the regular fries or upgrade to the sweet potato fries.

SAFFRON CHICKEN KABOB: With rice and a greek salad
Two of my friends ended up getting the saffron chicken and shared it was really good so I also had to include their photo!
Drinks:
For alcohol, they have a smaller local selection of beers along with some wines. They also have coffee, tea, soda a drink that our server informed us was a Persian drink “ORIGINAL OR MINT YOGURT DRINK.”
Doogh (Persian yogurt drink) or Ayran (Turkish yogurt drink), both refreshing, yogurt-based beverages, with Doogh often featuring mint and Ayran being a simple yogurt, salt, and water drink.
She warned us that most Americans think it will be sweet, but in fact it is salty.
Atmosphere/Service:

Having a large lot is a rarity for a Northeast location and with the impending University Avenue construction, it will be a huge benefit for them that hopefully allows them to stay afloat.
Our server was a University of Minnesota student here from Persia so it was fun to get her inside information on the food and fun little cultural tidbits.
The food was really good and I highly recommend going if you haven’t been.
