We had a girls day that started off with us playing Purse Bingo at The Sportsman to raise money for the Somerset Community Food Shelf and then headed over to Kennedy’s Cafe for lunch. Such a cute little diner.Continue reading
Old Southern BBQ | Arden Hills, MNStandard
Husband was working across town so I got a pleasant surprise via text asking me what I wanted him to bring home from Old Southern BBQ for dinner.Continue reading
Union Hmong Kitchen | Minneapolis, MNStandard
This isn’t my first time at Graze in the North Loop, but this was the first time I went with a mission in mind. The mission – try Union Hmong Kitchen.
I really wanted to get to their stand during the Minnesota State Fair, but the line was WRAPPING around the corner so I made a promise to myself then that I’d get there this year – and I did!Continue reading
Fogo de Chao | MinneapolisStandard
As I’ve talked about before, I started this blog as a creative writing outlet that would also push me when I moved to Minneapolis to get out and try new things. It’s pretty funny for me that while I occasionally dabble in lackluster poetry and lifestyle blogging, food is really the only thing that I’m super excited to share with other people haha. That said, quarantine during COVID-19 has hit me hard and I’ve been staring at these photos from Fogo de Chao for weeks and just haven’t been able to find the motivation to give it the Hipster Hack that it deserves.
After years (literal years) of boyfriend begging me to go to Fogo de Chao with him and me denying him, because 1. I assumed it was similar to a buffet (I always get full after 1 plate so it’s not worth it for me) and 2. meat has always intimidated me…that’s what she said (I know that sounds ridiculous, but honestly, I am not knowledgeable about beef cuts or types), I finally acquiesced.
TL:DR version: Boyfriend and I happen to have our birthdays 3 days apart so we decided to treat ourselves to a joint celebration dinner at Fogo!
*Fun Fact: you’ve probably been pronouncing this wrong. It’s not “Fogo day Chow” instead it’s pronounced “Fogo dee shown”
Parlour Bar | North Loop, MinneapolisStandard
I love the vibe at Parlour Bar and in fact have been to both the Minneapolis and the Saint Paul locations for cocktails. However, it was becoming quite apparent that I’ve been doing myself a disservice by not having ever eaten their burger. there.
Yang’s Chinese Restaurant | Woodbury MinnesotaStandard
I was staying over at Boyfriend’s house and (surprise) he had no groceries, so we were excited to try a new place, Yang’s Chinese Restaurant.
Osaka Sushi + Hibachi | Woodbury MinnesotaStandard
I have this unexplained anxiety about hibachi restaurants. I think it’s mostly due to the performance pressure of having food thrown into the air that you’re supposed to catch in your mouth and the social pressure of participating in having sake squirted directly into your mouth WITHOUT letting it stain your clothes…my refusal to go to hibachi has not gone over well with boyfriend so after a year of stubborn refusal I finally agreed, much to boyfriend’s outward jubilation, to visit Osaka Seafood & Steakhouse for date night.
Azul Tequila Bar and Grill | Hudson WisconsinStandard
Nothing says “Happy Birthday” like tacos! I was excited to go out for impromptu dinner with my parents for my mom’s birthday in Hudson. I was even more excited when my mom picked Azul Tequila Bar and Grill, because I live for queso dip.
Monte Carlo Restaurant | MinneapolisStandard
Working downtown means getting to enjoy lunch menus of places that may be a little too pricey for a normal dinner…like Monte Carlo. Fun fact: I had actually just broken my iphone the night before we went to lunch so my boss used his to take these photos instead haha. THAT is the epitome of a supportive job 🙂
George and the Dragon | MinneapolisStandard
This is my first George and the Dragon Hipster Hack, but it’s my third experience there. The first time was based off a suggestion a coworker gave me when my (now) boyfriend was forcing me to pick out where we were going to go to dinner on one of our first official dates. Unfortunately, the wait was over an hour so we went elsewhere. We did end up going a couple weeks later, but back then I was still trying a bit and didn’t want to whip out my camera and take pictures of all the food just yet haha, so I’m excited to say that not only did I take pictures of my food this time, but when the appetizer arrived, boyfriend pushed the plate over to me, “get your picture so we can eat.” hahahaha. Trained.
