Let me just preface this with how excited I am that finally someone was smart enough to open up a restaurant close to Indeed Brewing Company and Able Seedhouse + Brewery. While food trucks are a brewery staple, it just did not make sense that there was this whole area of Northeast without viable food options. With that I would like to say thank you to Centro @ Popol Vuh for being smart enough to join the neighborhood and for being open in time for my birthday celebration!
Drinks:
Naturally we went with the pitcher of margaritas. I could pretend it’s because it was the best deal, but in reality, it’s because we were there celebrating my Birthday and a pitcher of margaritas really just fit our night vibe haha.
They were definitely good, but there was a little too much ice in it and the pitcher did only give us about 4 margaritas. Less Ice = More Tequila!
Food:
One Word: TACOS
I mean, let’s be real, it’s pretty difficult to mess up tacos, but when you taste one handmade with love and skill it’s a different experience. I snatched bites of a few and they were all pretty good.
Tinga: Chipotle-tomato chicken, crema, and queso (4 stars)
Carnitas: Pork shoulder, grilled pineapple, and salsa verde (3 stars – Linnea note: this was sort of oily/greasy)
Barbacoa: Braised lamb, salsa cruda, cilantro, and onions (3 stars)
Naturally we also got the guacamole and the chips & trio salsa…because duh. This decision actually turned out to be the best one we made, because the place was extremely packed and it did take some time for the tacos to make their way to our corner of the bar.
Service/Atmosphere:
It was extremely busy and we lucked out getting this section of the bar that was open with a couple stools. The majority of the room was comprised of high top circular tables and due to the sheer amount of people most of it was standing room only. This totally fit in with the fast casual vibe, especially because ordering tacos should be a casual thing.
The food was a little slow to come out, but we did give them the benefit out of the doubt since they make everything to order and like I said before, it was packed. Overall, the bartenders were super friendly and attentive and naturally I was with a great group celebrating my birth so it was definitely a great first stop and great base for a night out! I’m excited to try it again. 4 stars.
P.S I would like to thank Mikayla’s snapchat for pretty much all the photos in this blog haha
