I’ve tried a bunch of amazing foods, drinks, and places this year, so I wanted to share my Top 6 (I couldn’t make myself limit it to 5!) choices for the Best of 2014!
6. The Vegas Lounge
It’s probably not fair to call this a best of 2014, because it wasn’t new to me this year, but any Hipster “Best Of” list just feels immoral without the inclusion of this gem. Northeast really does have some of the most amazing places.
5. Dangerous Man – Chocolate Milk Stout
I’ve never had a beer that tasted like childhood before. This beer makes Peter Pan Syndrome acceptable and for that it receives no less than a high5, wink, and awkward two step with a little twist.
4. Eli’s East – Turkey & Brie Sandwich
As stated in my blog post, this was the most delicious thing I’ve eaten all year. I’ve never had a grilled cheese sandwich I didn’t like, but it’s also safe to say that some grilled cheese sandwiches are better than others…this is one of the latter.
3. Anchor Fish & Chips
There’s no better greasy food than Anchor Fish & Chips, plus I’m obsessed with the pub vibe, because it always makes me feel like I’ve gone somewhere fresh and different. Almost like a fake vacation.
2. Sociable Cider Werks – Freewheeler
I love how mainstream cider has become, because it makes it so much easier to avoid gluten without having to explain to people about your stomach issues or have them make snarky comments…not that I have a family who does exactly that *cough Taylor Andrea Dusty.
Sociable Cider Werks is such a great space and their selection is amazing. I would definitely suggest the Freewheeler, although the Hot Cuke is pretty great, too!
1. Gorkha Palace
I am so in love with this restaurant that I can’t just pick one food item to highlight. The reason Gorkha Palace is my #1 pick for my Best of 2014 list is because of the variety. I am a loyal Mo:Mo’ian (including the new Bison type, check back for a review on those next week!), but I also find something new everytime to try. The Naan, the Chicken Coconut, and the Lamb Vindaloo all made an appearance in my stomach this year.
Honesty Moment: A couple times I had to guilt myself into going to a new place for the sake of this blog instead of just going back to the Gorkha for a meal. It’s safe to say I’m addicted.
That concludes my Hipster Hack review of the Best of 2014 places in Northeast Minneapolis. I would like to give an honorary mention to Voodoo Doughnut and The Beet Down cocktail at The Richmond Bar in Portland, Oregon. I decided to keep this list local, but if I would have opened it up, they would have been on it for sure.
Feel free to comment and let me know your favorites or if there’s anything you disagree with. I love new suggestions!
