B&G Wine & Liquor | Northeast Minneapolis

B&G Wine & Liquor is a convenient 3 blocks from my apartment. They’re also open until 10pm…dangerous.

What I like most about this liquor store (besides the obvious convenience) is the staff.

Service:

The employees are not only super friendly, but they’re entertaining. Upon stopping outside the door to make sure it was still open (since it was after 9pm), one of the workers opened up the door and said, “I’ve been waiting for you inside. You’re late. Were you going to stand out here all night?”

I’ve also been told to: “Keep doing what you’re doing,” after it was revealed I was, indeed, over 21 years of age.

However, my favorite encounter was the time my roommate bought a bottle of wine and informed them it was her post 5k run “treat.” When she walked outside the guy turned to me and said I should move out, because “she’s a bad influence on you.” Continue reading

The Anchor Fish & Chips | Northeast Minneapolis

Standard

The Anchor Fish & Chips in Northeast is a cult classic. The food is always delicious and it’s always insansely busy, which means that there’s an art to getting seated at Anchor.

Because there are only a couple tables set up to accommodate more than two people if you go to dinner with more than that you’re looking at a minimum 45 minute wait. Seating is first-come-first-serve, so if you are trying to go with a party, either send someone to put your name in ahead of time or simply don’t go at supper time! Continue reading

Dangerous Man Brewing Co. | Northeast Minneapolis

Dangerous Man Northeast
Standard

Dangerous Man Brewing Co has been at the top of my brewery list for a while, because I’ve been hearing such amazing things. I’m pleased to report that it lived up to the hipster hype.

Drinks:

NE Craft Beers

We went to Dangerous Man for girls night and between us had the Oktoberfest, Chocolate Milk Stout, and Kolsch. Nowhere near the whole selection, but it was a good start! Continue reading

Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit Oktoberfest has come and gone. Some friends and I made it there this last Saturday, which happened to be the last day of Oktoberfest this year.

In order to eat or drink you needed to buy tokens. Tokens which are $5 a piece.

Everything was also cash only, so if you want to avoid a long ATM line and a $3 ATM fee, I would suggest making a pit stop for cash on the way. Continue reading

St. Anthony Main Theatre | Northeast Minneapolis

St. Anthony Main Theatre
Standard

St. Anthony Main Theatre is the Northeast choice for film festivals and artsy movie screenings. The historical site has a loyal local following and a great vantage point of the river. It’s also been recently renovated.

Movies:

While they do play blockbusters, the great part about the St. Anthony Main Movie Theatre is that they show a lot of the “limited screenings” and they’re the home of the MSP Film Society and the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival.

You can get a list of the MSP Film Society Films and Events HERE. Continue reading

Gorkha Palace | Northeast Minneapolis

Gorkha Palace

The first time I went to Gorkha Palace was with my sister, Ashley, before I had moved to Northeast. We were driving around looking for something different since she was visiting me “in the city” from the deep country a.k.a New Richmond, Wisconsin, where people have gardens with rows of vegetables, chickens that they plan on eating later as pets, and a four wheeler path in their backyard…hicks. Right, Ash? Haha.

Gorkha Palace NE Mpls

Anyway, once she saw the sign for the Gorkha Palace she was set on getting Naan, and I was ready to try something new.

It ended up being the best decision we could have made. The food was delicious, the service was great, and for months I’ve been craving it, but haven’t yet found someone willing to venture back with me. So I finally gave in to my craving and ordered take-out. Continue reading

Spyhouse Coffee | Northeast Minneapolis

As most of my friends know, my dream is to have someone write a Craigslist Missed Connection about me, so after seeing two missed connections happen at Spyhouse Coffee in Northeast, it naturally shot to the top of my “must go” list.

It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, everytime I drive by Spyhouse off of Broadway it’s packed, which is no surprise considering how delicious it is. Continue reading

Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market

After weeks of attempting, I finally made it to the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market this morning. The Farmers Market happens every Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm in the parking lot of the Saint Boniface Church off on the corner of University and 7th Avenue…conveniently across the street from Emily’s Lebanese Deli which you can get my review about next week!

I’m actually ashamed to admit that I’ve never been to a Farmers Market mostly because everyone else in my life seems to be obsessed with them and I feel like I could have been experiencing so much all these years.

Extremely cheap, fresh produce:

Seriously….extremely cheap. I got a box of green beans, 4 bell peppers, and an eggplant for $7.00. Continue reading

Nice Ride Minnesota

Nice Ride MN App
Standard

Nice Ride Minnesota is this pretty legit bike rental program that’s available in the Twin Cities. Biking is a popular past time in Northeast as well as the most convenient and painless way for people to get around during one of the many festivals or outdoor activities happening during the, you know, 30 days of Minnesota sunshine.

The first thing I would suggest you do if you’re looking to rent a Nice Ride is to download the Nice Ride App. Not only does this app tell you how long you’ve been on the bike, which is very useful considering the first 30 minutes for non members are free, but it also tells you the availability of bikes and open slots at the stations near you. Eli’s Food And Cocktails – East | NE Minneapolis

Eli's Food and Cocktails
Standard

Eli’s Food And Cocktails East location was the best midnight food decision we’ve made in a long time for two main reasons; the place had about 10 people in it, which meant instant service (not surprising since this is a lounge set up and it was midnight on a Saturday), and the full kitchen stays open until 1am.

Food:

Eli's East

I had the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted in my life: Turkey & Brie sandwich which comes with assorted greens, apples, and a delicious smoked paprika aioli. I had mine on gluten-free bread which only cost $1 extra, which is actually really cheap compared to most places who have gluten free options. I wish I would have taken a photo to instagram it’s deliciousness (UPDATE: Photo has been added from a follow up research mission…), but as I said it was 1am and we had other things on our mind…like an attempted crowd sing-a-long to “Build Me Up Buttercup…” Evidence below: Continue reading
