Much like Dusty’s Bar, Tony Jaros Rivergarden is an unapologetic dive. Where these two are different, is that Tony Jaros is a favorite destination of the sports attending crowd, softball teams, and even some of the trendier downtown Minneapolis crowd.
Drinks:
A cash only establishment, the drink that brings people here is “The Greenie.” A drink so popular that when you google “Tony Jaros” a recipe for the Greenie is a first page result
The Greenie
- 1/2 oz. Sno-cone juice only, Limeade syrup, or Tony Jaros’ Greenie Mix
- 1 1/2 oz. or more of vodka
- 1/3 pack Tom Collins mix
- Top off with Squirt Lemon-Lime Soda
- Ice
Service:
Not the most friendly individuals, they have a loyal clientele and an impatience for people who don’t know what they want.
Atmosphere:
The bar itself has a vague over encompassing outhouse smell. The whole floorplan revolves around the giant bar in the middle, which means there is a lot of bar seating and a couple tables.
Overall, I know I’m in the minority of my friends, who all love this place and find it’s lack of charm, charming, but I have to say the only thing that gave me real joy about this place was that they have actual payphones.
