Legends Bar And Grill | Northeast Minneapolis

If you’re in the mood for a liquid brunch or lunch, Legends Bar & Grill in Northeast is my recommended stop, solely, because of the Bloody Mary’s that are as big as my head.

Drinks:

As previously stated, their large, 25 oz., Bloody Mary is giant. It also comes with a “buddy” on the side.

Loaded with a freakishly large celery stick, meat stick, pickle, olive, hot pepper, and shrimp, it’s safe to say this is a meal. Not being a fan of shrimp, which I was once informed was one chromosome away from being a cockroach, I wasn’t that impressed by it’s inclusion, but most of my lunch companions don’t share my same aversion to the cockroach of the sea.

The bloody had it’s fair share of spice, without being too excessive. I’d give it a 9/10. Word to the wise: don’t get the large if you’re planning on getting food, too. I wasn’t able to finish mine, because it’s legitimately a liquid meal. Continue reading

Sociable Cider Werks | Northeast Minneapolis

Sociable Cider Werks
Standard

I’m obsessed. Obsessed with the Freewheeler (described as the most popular cider on their menu). I’m obsessed with the old warehouse quality of the building. I’m obsessed with the foosball table, bocce ball court, and patio area. I’m obsessed with Sociable Cider Werks.

Being 90% Gluten Free (10% lazy), back when I lived in St. Paul and found out there was a cider tap room opening, I felt like the Gods of Northeast were beaconing me to join them. Continue reading

The Mill Northeast | NE Minneapolis

Standard

It was suggested to me that we class up my Birthday celebration by heading over to The Mill Northeast.
Located on the corner of 19th St and Central Ave. Occupying the old Falafel King venue and nestled amongst some authentic eateries, it’s safe to say that this restaurant is a little out of place.

The Mill NE

FOOD:

I’ve been told the crab cake is delectable, but we were only there for drinks.

DRINKS:

I’m a glutton for cucumber flavored anything, so it was obvious that I was going to order the “Tijuana Brass Smash,” which is made up of cucumber vodka, lime, cilantro, and pineapple. It was a gorgeous green color with a froth that was almost gelato textured. Continue reading

Eli’s Food And Cocktails – East | NE Minneapolis

Eli's Food and Cocktails
Standard

Eli’s Food And Cocktails East location was the best midnight food decision we’ve made in a long time for two main reasons; the place had about 10 people in it, which meant instant service (not surprising since this is a lounge set up and it was midnight on a Saturday), and the full kitchen stays open until 1am.

Food:

Eli's East

I had the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted in my life: Turkey & Brie sandwich which comes with assorted greens, apples, and a delicious smoked paprika aioli. I had mine on gluten-free bread which only cost $1 extra, which is actually really cheap compared to most places who have gluten free options. I wish I would have taken a photo to instagram it’s deliciousness (UPDATE: Photo has been added from a follow up research mission…), but as I said it was 1am and we had other things on our mind…like an attempted crowd sing-a-long to “Build Me Up Buttercup…” Evidence below: Continue reading

331 Club | Northeast Minneapolis

331 Club
Standard

331 Club (if you want to fit in I strongly suggest that you pronounce it three-three-one and not three hundred and thirty one or three thirty one) is another NE Dive Bar gem. There is literally something happening every night; bands, trivia, or even an adult spelling bee.

Drinks:

If you’re looking for a Mixologist this is not the place. On the menu are PBR tall boys and strong mixed drinks.

Snacks:

Hummus and pitas. This is a staple that should be at every bar.

Music:

This is probably the most consistent place for free live music in Northeast. There is pretty much a set every night (minus Blingo, Trivia, Spelling Bee, etc). The bands range from hipster to folksy hipster and I wouldn’t be surprised if I was to hear an accordion. It’s massively loud inside though, so if you’re looking for a conversation I’d strongly suggest going out on the patio. Continue reading

The Vegas Lounge | Northeast Minneapolis

The Vegas Lounge
Standard

Cheap drinks, awkward encounters, and karaoke. The Vegas Lounge is the unnofficial capital of Northeast nightlife.

The vibe of this place does a total 180 shift at approximately 9pm. During the day this is a local haunt of older patrons and seasoned day drinkers. At night you can watch the slow shift as the townies get sparser and relocate closer to the door preparing for their escape from the infiltration and eventual swarm of the NE hipster army.

Karaoke:

The karaoke variety at Vegas is out of this world. Open 365 days a year this place is busy any night after 10pm. Continue reading

Hazel’s Northeast | NE Minneapolis

Hazel's Northeast
Standard

Brunch is a godsend, mostly because it makes discussing your questionable life decisions from the previous evening with an alcoholic beverage, socially acceptable.

I’ve been hearing about Hazel’s Northeast for months, but every weekend their line is out the door and when you’re fighting off the booze sweats, waiting in the sun and smelling food while nauseous is just not plausible. So that meant there was only one solution: Tuesday brunch! Continue reading
