Taco Teresa’s is the new fast casual Mexican restaurant from the owner of the Minnesota chain; Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant. My obsession with tacos and queso dip coupled with the dangerously close proximity of Taco Teresa’s to my office meant I was basically a bi-weekly regular and now that I have accepted a new job opportunity and will no longer be around the corner, this Hipster Hack will have to serve as both my homage and my swan song haha. Lucky Cricket | Shops At West End
StandardLucky Cricket started out without a “Minnesota Nice” welcome, much due to co-owner and celebrity chef, Andrew Zimmerman’s, controversial remark during an interview to Fast Company stating, “I’m saving the souls of all the people from having to dine at these horseshit restaurants masquerading as Chinese food that are in the Midwest.” A comment that blew up in his face, rightfully so, considering that Minneapolis has many asian restaurants owned by asian families serving up authentic asian dishes. Unfortunately, that wasn’t all. The next controversy was about the food itself being falsely advertised and there were a few scathing reviews about the preparation and flavors…
All controversy aside, I was determined to check out the restaurant for myself and when a friend and I were looking for a place to meet up for Happy Hour it was my immediate suggestion!
4 Bells | Minneapolis
StandardOver the last couple years I’ve finally developed an appreciation for seafood (except shrimp… reason 1 is the texture and reason 2 is because I was told that shrimp are a chromosome away from a cockroach and therefore literally the cockroach of the sea. Vomit). Therefore, when my friend Mikayla invited me along to a group dinner at 4 Bells, I instantly agreed.
4 Bells is known for their extremely fresh seafood and while they utilize local fish when possible, the bulk of their seafood is overnighted directly from the coasts.
Their name, according to their website, comes from the tradition of ringing a bell 4 times to signal to sailors that it’s time for a break.
Royal Foundry Craft Cocktails | Minneapolis
StandardI’ve been eagerly waiting for the opening of Royal Foundry Distillery. Housed in the same warehouse as La Dona Cerveceria these two are starting what is going to be a sweeping rejuvenation near Glenwood and Fremont in Minneapolis.
Pat’s Tap Gastropub | Minneapolis
StandardI am a Pat’s Tap Gastropub regular and have been for years, but now, living a mere 4 blocks from there, it’s my go-to suggestion for anyone who wants to meet me out.
This Hipster Hack is not going to give it justice, because I have been there a LOT and it’s only reflecting one meal, but not having one up about this place just felt wrong!
The Howe Daily Kitchen and Bar | Minneapolis
StandardSunday Brunch is a right of passage for every #BasicBitch. Full of libations, carb loading, and morning after stories, Sunday Brunch is a tradition that begins at 21 and (if you do it correctly) continues until the end of time.
For my first Sunday Brunch of 2019 I decided to revisit a place I had checked out for the first time this summer: The Howe Daily Kitchen & Bar in South Minneapolis. Upon arrival my Brunch-mate took one look and proclaimed, “this is the type of place I’d expect you to choose.” If that’s not a high note of praise for The Howe then I don’t know what is haha.
Pryes Brewing Company | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardOn our recent crawl around Northeast we made it a point to cross the river and finally visit Pryes Brewing Company.
This Brewery/taproom is beautiful. I know that it’s pretty typical at this point for breweries to be popping up in warehouses with high ceilings and lots of exposed metal tops, but there was just something a little extra that I can’t exactly define that set this place above the rest.

La Doña Cerveceria | Minneapolis Brewery
StandardI’ve been stalking the opening of La Doña Cerveceria all summer so when they announced their Grand Opening a couple weekends ago I was ready.
La Doña Cerveceria’s mission is “to celebrate the vibrancy, breadth and depth of Latino and Minnesotan culture through superior product and customer experience as a fully operational brewery and community/event center, while raising awareness of and providing support to social, economic, and environmental issues that impact us all.”
Their space definitely does that.
Twin Spirits Distillery | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardTwin Spirits Distillery was a cute place I had never heard about before friends suggested it during our Northeast alcohol crawl celebrating my Birthday. At first I was a little concerned as we went what felt like the wrong way down Central Avenue to get to it, but the moment we arrived and I saw the cute outdoor space I was in love.

Centro At Popol Vuh | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardLet me just preface this with how excited I am that finally someone was smart enough to open up a restaurant close to Indeed Brewing Company and Able Seedhouse + Brewery. While food trucks are a brewery staple, it just did not make sense that there was this whole area of Northeast without viable food options. With that I would like to say thank you to Centro @ Popol Vuh for being smart enough to join the neighborhood and for being open in time for my birthday celebration!
