It’s National Coffee Day, so I figured, what can be more fitting than sharing my Taraccino Coffee adventure, partly because their coffee was so good, partly because I’m a sucker for random national holidays, but mostly, because it had my name in the title 😉 Continue reading

Minnesota State Fair 2015
StandardI usually can’t decide what I love more about the Minnesota State Fair; people watching or the food.
With the last weekend of the fair starting today, I wanted to make sure you had my list of fair favorites and new must trys!
*Pro Tip: It’s important to go to the fair with friends and family who are willing to share. The goal is to try everything and that’s just not possible for your wallet or your stomach if you’re not going into it with a team mentality. Continue reading
N E Yacht Club | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardThe Northeast Yacht Club is a great place to go for a more low-key patio experience.
Drinks:
The drinks are cheap and it’s a good place to anchor up at the bar (see what I did there). They do not offer specials and when asked insist “we offer the same great deals daily.” Continue reading
Tony Jaros Rivergarden | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardMuch like Dusty’s Bar, Tony Jaros Rivergarden is an unapologetic dive. Where these two are different, is that Tony Jaros is a favorite destination of the sports attending crowd, softball teams, and even some of the trendier downtown Minneapolis crowd. Continue reading
Dusty’s Bar | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardThrow a penny anywhere in Northeast and you’re pretty much guaranteed to hit a dive bar, but it’s the places like Dusty’s Bar that are so authentically divey, so completely uninterested in trying to fit into the increasingly “Hipster” northeast scene, that they’re actually defiantly the original Hipster (Exhibit A: their cash register). Bauhaus Brew Labs | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardAfter months of talking about it, I finally made it to Bauhaus Brew Labs as part of a combination Birthday celebration/Welcome Home adventure with some of my favorite people.
Atmosphere:
They have a really cool space. It’s an open warehouse layout and reminds me a little of Sociable Cider Werks, but they have a much larger floor plan. They also took a different approach with the cafeteria style table set up.
With such an open space and high ceilings there is minimal chance of claustrophobia and if by some chance you actually do manage to feel claustrophobic, they also have a pretty great patio area in the back complete with these adorable lights.
BONUS: It was an extremely humid night, so having the patio doors open provided a much needed breeze.
Oh, they also had a guy up on their stage playing vinyl records all night. Apparently Friday is Vinyl night. What’s not to love about that?
Drinks:
As a group we ordered a variety so I was able to try a few of the Bauhaus beers out, but since we didn’t get there until a little after 10pm, I was only able to order one drink of my own; the Wonderstuff.
The Wonderstuff, “Neu Bohemian Pilsner,” is their “citrusy blend” option. It was pretty light and definitely what I needed at that point. I also really liked the Wagon Party, which is a “West Coast Style Lager.”
If you’re the mood to read some entertaining beer descriptions, I highly suggest visiting their website.
Overall the beer was refreshing and the atmosphere was perfect for a pre-rager Friday night. I would also like to say they have my favorite brewery logo, although reading the font gives me a headache on their website haha.
Parking:
It should also be noted that you have to go underneath a warehouse awning to the point where you’ll almost feel like you’re entering a parking garage to actually get to Bauhaus Brew Labs, but once you go through it opens up into a large parking lot so parking isn’t a huge problem.
Four stars.

Ling & Louie’s | Downtown Minneapolis
StandardThe best nights are the ones where you go out with only one plan; adventure. On a recent DT wander with my friend Mikayla, we stumbled upon Ling & Louie’s and realized that a rooftop patio was exactly what the doctor ordered. Continue reading
Diamonds Coffee Shoppe | Northeast Minneapolis
StandardFor the last two months I’ve been working from home. Anyone who has experienced the work-from-home lifestyle can probably confirm that coffee shops become your saving grace, because they give you a reason to put on pants and be among people….there’s also the free wifi.
At the suggestions of my friend and NE aficionado, Kelly, I decided that today was a good day to check out Diamonds Coffee Shoppe.
Atmosphere:
Diamonds Coffee Shoppe is located in an old warehouse and is full of nooks and crannies. It can be best described as a maze (or Narnia, depending what you’re into). It’s pretty eclectic with a wide range of personalities. In the last hour I’ve seen retirees enjoying a cup of coffee, a mom with her children desperately trying to keep them entertained, a group of college students working on a project, quite a few people reading books on the couches, and other people like myself, vigoriously typing away on their laptops. Hell’s Kitchen Minneapolis | Downtown
StandardAfter a vain attempt of going to Hell’s Kitchen brunch last year without a reservation, I was finally able to make it there for dinner to celebrate my friend, Mikayla’s Birthday, with some amazing ladies!
Service:
I usually end a hack by talking about service, but in this case I think the service is a big part of what makes Hell’s Kitchen, Hell’s Kitchen. The vibe here is a mixture between the artsy kids in High School you wanted to be friends with and the pretentious lifestyle snob. For example, the host didn’t appear as if he even had the time of day for me to point me in the direction of where my friends were seated, but our waitress had an infectiously upbeat vibe, and the bussers were completely on their game. Eat Street Social | Minneapolis
StandardRecently two of my favorites, Brad & Lisa, decided to make their relationship legal so our friend, Nicole, organized an engagement party for them at Eat Street Social. Nicole had a pretty hard time finding a restaurant that could accommodate our party of 20, so when she called Eat Street she was extremely pleased that the manager, Jaren, not only went above and beyond to help us make this engagement party a possibility, but also organized our use of “The Torpedo Room,” event space.
