Pryes Brewing Company | Northeast Minneapolis

On our recent crawl around Northeast we made it a point to cross the river and finally visit Pryes Brewing Company.

This Brewery/taproom is beautiful. I know that it’s pretty typical at this point for breweries to be popping up in warehouses with high ceilings and lots of exposed metal tops, but there was just something a little extra that I can’t exactly define that set this place above the rest.

Uncle Franky’s | Northeast Minneapolis

Northeast Minneapolis Food

Uncle Franky’s is located in a hole-in-the-wall standalone square building close to the corner of Monroe & Broadway in Northeast. After years of experiencing hot dog cravings after driving by it at night when they were already closed, I am happy to report that I finally made it there with my co-pilot Mikayla, and that it was phenomenal. Urban Eatery | Uptown Minneapolis

Urban Eatery
Standard

Brunch is my favorite weekend pasttime, so when it was suggested that a group of us should meet at Urban Eatery for bloodies and brunch I was beyond ecstatic.

Drinks:

While they did have a Bloody Mary Bar, I was struggling that morning and decided that it was better for everyone involved if it came to me pre-made. It was delicious. Just enough flavor and spice to make it memorable, but not too much for me to not enjoy it.  It also comes with garnish, and since it took our group a while to stop talking long enough to look at the menu and actually order, the snacks were much needed haha. Hell’s Kitchen Minneapolis | Downtown

Hell's Kitchen Minneapolis

After a vain attempt of going to Hell’s Kitchen brunch last year without a reservation, I was finally able to make it there for dinner to celebrate my friend, Mikayla’s Birthday, with some amazing ladies!

Service:

I usually end a hack by talking about service, but in this case I think the service is a big part of what makes Hell’s Kitchen, Hell’s Kitchen. The vibe here is a mixture between the artsy kids in High School you wanted to be friends with and the pretentious lifestyle snob. For example, the host didn’t appear as if he even had the time of day for me to point me in the direction of where my friends were seated, but our waitress had an infectiously upbeat vibe, and the bussers were completely on their game. Eat Street Social | Minneapolis

Recently two of my favorites, Brad & Lisa, decided to make their relationship legal so our friend, Nicole, organized an engagement party for them at Eat Street Social. Nicole had a pretty hard time finding a restaurant that could accommodate our party of 20, so when she called Eat Street she was extremely pleased that the manager, Jaren, not only went above and beyond to help us make this engagement party a possibility, but also organized our use of “The Torpedo Room,” event space.

Gorkha Palace is by far my favorite restaurant in Northeast and I’ve already done a full review on the place, which you can read HERE. But, because I am so loyal to my readers (and to my sister), when she wanted to go get dinner I figured I should go back and try something else 😉 Continue reading

Smack Shack | North Loop Minneapolis

I wanted to get a Hipster Hack review out about the Smack Shack this week, since Valentine’s Day in just around the corner and according to their website they have a stuffed lobster & champagne pairing going on this Saturday, February 14th. What better way to say “I like you better than anyone else in my life,” than lobster and champagne?

The interesting thing about Smack Shack is that they originated as a Food Truck that specialized in Lobster Rolls. They were also featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” because of their food truck and as the food service at 1029 Bar.  The actual “Smack Shack” restaurant has only been open since 2013, but it has quickly become a staple of the North Loop dining experience.
