Red Rabbit | North Loop Minneapolis

Red Rabbit North Loop Minneapolis

My new downtown work life means that I’m surrounded by many bars I haven’t heard of and restaurants I haven’t had a chance to get to yet. My first time at Red Rabbit was a couple years ago for my birthday where I was a bougie bitch and ordered Oysters so I was excited to go for lunch, because I finally got to be one of those people who met up for a “quick lunch around the corner” with their friends who also work downtown, and also because I was excited to try something else at the Red Rabbit!

Hell’s Kitchen Minneapolis | Downtown

Hell's Kitchen Minneapolis

After a vain attempt of going to Hell’s Kitchen brunch last year without a reservation, I was finally able to make it there for dinner to celebrate my friend, Mikayla’s Birthday, with some amazing ladies!

Hell's Kitchen mpls

Service:

I usually end a hack by talking about service, but in this case I think the service is a big part of what makes Hell’s Kitchen, Hell’s Kitchen. The vibe here is a mixture between the artsy kids in High School you wanted to be friends with and the pretentious lifestyle snob. For example, the host didn’t appear as if he even had the time of day for me to point me in the direction of where my friends were seated, but our waitress had an infectiously upbeat vibe, and the bussers were completely on their game. Open Streets MPLS

Open Streets MPLS
Standard

Open Streets MPLS announced their 2015 schedule and although I know it’s extremely early, especially since we just got dumped on with a random snow storm, I need reminders like this to realize that spring, is in fact, here.

Open Streets MPLS is the brainchild of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition and was organized with the intent of allowing the people of Minneapolis to experience their city on non-motorized wheels.

If you don’t have a bike this would be a great time to check out the Nice Ride MN program, or participate the old fashioned way; on foot. Continue reading

Freehouse | North Loop Minneapolis

Freehouse Minneapolis
Standard

Located in the North Loop of Minneapolis, Freehouse is a taproom/bar hybrid, that also happens to serve amazing food.

Food:

freehousecurds

If the place serves cheese curds, it’s probable I’m a fan. These cheese curds, however, definitely stand alone. With a modern twist on beer-battered, these nuggets of gold are battered in hard cider. Served with apple sauce and quince jam, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Continue reading

Smack Shack | North Loop Minneapolis

I wanted to get a Hipster Hack review out about the Smack Shack this week, since Valentine’s Day in just around the corner and according to their website they have a stuffed lobster & champagne pairing going on this Saturday, February 14th. What better way to say “I like you better than anyone else in my life,” than lobster and champagne?

The interesting thing about Smack Shack is that they originated as a Food Truck that specialized in Lobster Rolls. They were also featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” because of their food truck and as the food service at 1029 Bar.  The actual “Smack Shack” restaurant has only been open since 2013, but it has quickly become a staple of the North Loop dining experience. 514 Studios is a gorgeous photography studio that doubles as an event site located in the Minneapolis Warehouse District.

Salvation Army Minneapolis – “Fake Target”

salvation army
Standard

The Salvation Army in Downtown Minneapolis has what has been deemed “Fake Target” in the basement, due to the fact that Target Corporate, which is located in Downtown, drops off their close outs there…at least that’s the rumor.

After visiting I feel like I can confirm the validity of this rumor, considering almost every article of clothing has a Target brand label and appears to be unworn. Continue reading
