There is hanging out at a coffee shop and then there is Edwards Dessert Kitchen. I’ve been to some really stunning coffee shops, and while I know this probably doesn’t classify as a “coffee shop,” that vibe feels like it fits more than what you would expect at a traditional bakery. It’s not only adorable inside and home of some amazing coffee (and I’m assured amazing sweets), it is now my new favorite place to take a mid-day field trip. Continue reading
My new downtown work life means that I’m surrounded by many bars I haven’t heard of and restaurants I haven’t had a chance to get to yet. My first time at Red Rabbit was a couple years ago for my birthday where I was a bougie bitch and ordered Oysters so I was excited to go for lunch, because I finally got to be one of those people who met up for a “quick lunch around the corner” with their friends who also work downtown, and also because I was excited to try something else at the Red Rabbit!

Isles Bun and Coffee is known for their well, buns 🙂 With my week off it’s been the perfect time to jet off into cute little bakeries and shops that I wouldn’t normally get to on a weekend. Isles Bun and Coffee, which I’ve been incorrectly referring to as “Isles of Buns,” which to be fair I think would be a much better name haha, definitely lived up to the hype.
A couple weeks ago I was giddy when I realized it was #NationalGrilledCheeseDay. My giddiness amplified when I texted my friend to meet for lunch and she happened to be at Red Cow in Uptown Minneapolis…exactly the place that a couple coworkers told me that same morning had a phenomenal Grilled Cheese. Clearly I was meant to have this Grilled Cheese (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it).
My life was changed on April 4th at 4:09 PM when a photo of Blue Door Pub‘s Lobster Mac Totchos appeared in my timeline. It took two weeks to get there (yes, those 2 weeks were pure agony and no, I do not think I am being overdramatic…ok maybe a little), but we finally made it and while it was worth the wait, I wouldn’t recommend waiting too much longer, since it’s a limited time special! Taco Teresa’s is the new fast casual Mexican restaurant from the owner of the Minnesota chain; Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant. My obsession with tacos and queso dip coupled with the dangerously close proximity of Taco Teresa’s to my office meant I was basically a bi-weekly regular and now that I have accepted a new job opportunity and will no longer be around the corner, this Hipster Hack will have to serve as both my homage and my swan song haha. Lucky Cricket started out without a “Minnesota Nice” welcome, much due to co-owner and celebrity chef, Andrew Zimmerman’s, controversial remark during an interview to Fast Company stating, “I’m saving the souls of all the people from having to dine at these horseshit restaurants masquerading as Chinese food that are in the Midwest.” A comment that blew up in his face, rightfully so, considering that Minneapolis has many asian restaurants owned by asian families serving up authentic asian dishes. Unfortunately, that wasn’t all. The next controversy was about the food itself being falsely advertised and there were a few scathing reviews about the preparation and flavors…
All controversy aside, I was determined to check out the restaurant for myself and when a friend and I were looking for a place to meet up for Happy Hour it was my immediate suggestion!
